The part I keep thinking about is this: Something new is upon us, and yet nothing is ever new. Two thousand years ago, the Greeks understood this enemy. It inhabited their imagination in a favorite tale of heroic adversity, the story of Jason and the Argonauts, where it took the shape of a particular dragon. When this creature was slain and its corpse fell to the soil, each of its teeth germinated and instantly grew into a new enemy, fully armed and born full-force to the battle. In all of his picturesque predicaments, Jason never faced one more impossible than this field of foes, each with its own mouthful of teeth aching to germinate.

The entire essay is here: http://www.orionmagazine.org/index.php/articles/article/113/Myrnahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06450610418971329885noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4926741499062285039.post-60239404185714084192011-05-03T03:47:27.547+02:002011-05-03T03:47:27.547+02:00I agree with what you have said. I just posted on ...I agree with what you have said. I just posted on Nancy's facebook page that we should not rejoice about Bin Laden's death and a few other things that bothered me at the time about what people are doing about it. I said that we should just lay him to rest, let his family mourn and do nothing else but get ready for the next head to arise. I am relieved that we do not have to pay for his jail time and the fact there would have always been a chance of escape or his follower's doing things to try to get him out. I am glad that no one else has to suffer by his hand, but the head who replaces him could be worse.Brucehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01789970427991732451noreply@blogger.com
